clarification: if you look carefully to the upper-right of the child's forehead, you'll see a face in profile. The face is surrounded by a shawl with a broad, dark band... some say it is the BVM...

clarification - her nose is resting on the upper right (the forehead) of the baby.... as if holding the infant to her chest.
